Multi-faceted evaluation of interactive remote instruction
نویسنده
چکیده
Over the past five years, we have used our Interactive Remote Instruction (IRI) system to teach classes to various audiences. In this paper we evaluate IRI from three perspectives: technical performance, student perceptions, and instructional view. IRI scales well to multiple delivery sites and supports classes of 30 or more students, though some tools do not scale well. We compared perceptions of IRI students with students in similar TV-based classes and found that IRI students perceive a higher frequency of interaction with the instructor and other students. The instructor's view indicates that IRI can be utilised with minimal training (less than an hour). However, presentation techniques and classroom management may need to be modified in part because many students are uncomfortable being on camera. We identify shortcomings in the current version that are addressed in a revised version.

In this commentary the findings from a systematic review that concluded there is no compelling evidence to suggest that implementing complicated, multi-faceted interventions is more effective than simple, single component interventions to changing healthcare professional’s behaviour are considered through the lens of Harvey and Kitson’s editorial. Whilst an appealing conclusion, it is one that ...
متن کاملDesigning a “copy” Function for Interactive Tabletops
Tabletop interfaces pose special constraints and invite exploration of new ways to interact. This paper tackles these problems with a design approach for creating new interaction primitives for tabletops. It illustrates this in terms of the task of copying, which we argue is a core facility in tabletop interfaces. We present three mechanisms for tabletop copying and their multi-faceted but ligh...

By the integration of high speed computer networks and interactive multi-media workstations, the IRI (Interactive Remote Instruction) System creates a geographically dispersed virtual classroom. Each student participates using a personal workstation which can be used to view multi-media class presentations, to make presentations, to take notes in a multi-media notebook, and to interact via audi...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation of Local Detectors in the Presence of Noise for Multi-Sensor Remote Sensing Image Matching
Automatic, efficient, accurate, and stable image matching is one of the most critical issues in remote sensing, photogrammetry, and machine vision. In recent decades, various algorithms have been proposed based on the feature-based framework, which concentrates on detecting and describing local features. Understanding the characteristics of different matching algorithms in various applications ...
